PERBEDAAN ANTARA ANTIGEN DAN ANTIBODI
Difference between antigen and antibody.
Antibodies are also known as immunoglobulins. The shape of the molecule resembles the letter Y with the building blocks of a protein. Antibodies help the body defend itself against foreign substances called antigens. An antigen is a substance that stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies.
Antigens can be bacteria, viruses, or fungi that cause infection and disease.
Figure 1: Difference Between Antigen and Antibody |
antigens | antibody | |
1 | Antigens are usually made of proteins, but they can also be made of fats, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. | Antibodies are made of proteins. |
2 | Stimulates the formation of antibodies. | The antigen binds to a specific site on the antigen. |
3 | There are three main forms of antigens. (exogenous, endogenous and autoantigen) | There are 5 main forms of antibodies, namely immunoglobulins M, G, E, D and A. |
4 | The area where an antigen interacts with an antibody is called an epitope. | The region of an antibody that specifically binds to the epiloop is called a paraloop. |
5 | cause disease or allergic reactions | Protects the body by preventing the movement or lysis (destruction) of antigenic substances. |
